FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology". This non-profit organization was founded in 1989 by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen to interest and inspire students in mathematics, science and technology. Since then, FIRST has existed with an imperative, singular focus: to excite more young people about the importance, prevalence, accessibility, and fun of science and engineering.
FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition in which teams made of students who are mentored by professionals compete to solve an engineering design problem in a competitive and intense environment. The program provides young people with life-changing, career-molding experiences – and a lot of fun!
Students from Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville SC form the core of Team 6366. There are many sub-teams within the team and students learn a variety of workplace skills and soft skills in an industrial environment. Team 6366 provides students experience in collaboration and leadership, while working to further their knowledge and application of science, technology, engineering and math in real-world situations.
The purpose of the FIRST Robotics Team 6366 is to provide team members the opportunity to enhance their skills, knowledge and experience in the science and technology career arena through a structured, high-quality learning pathway that produces products that can compete on a global level.
